Lee,
I have a shipment that will be in transit for about 14 hours.
the shipment will come in styro boxes (big bags of water inside). i expect water quality to have a lot of ammonia and PH drop.
i am not sure how to acclimate given the circumstances.
the shipper said i could use the drip method. i voiced my concern about this because if i add water from the tank to bag, then the ph would rise, and i would expect ammonia to become more toxic. he said this is not a problem, because he adds amquel to the water. (interesting, because amquel does state that the neutralize the ammonia.) any thoughts?
if i dont go with the drip method, i dont feel comfortable in just equalizing temperature, and then dropping fish into tank. i am concerned about the sudden PH change. is that a serious concern? also, i think the tank has too much water for me to try to adjust the ph.
i guess maybe i could take some water from the tank and put it into a rubbermaid container;put an airstone into the container; adjust the water in this container; then put fish into the container. the airstone will cause the ph to increase gradually? how long do i leave fish in this container? the concern is that the ammonia level will go up there, so i need to transfer them to the tank.
as you suggest in your procedure, i do intend to do the freshwater dip on the fish. if the rubbermaid solution is plausible, do i give the fish a chance to recover from travel, and do the freshwater dip before i transfer them to tank?
i'd like to hear your thoughts. thanks.
