well it has finally happened, we are done, the aquarium must go.
trouble is how to deal with a 33 gal. salt water with live rock, stock and all the rest. we don't have that big of a set up but dúe to health reasons, neither my husband [heart] nor I [thyroid] , can keep up with maintaining the system. we have already had a few deaths. our local pet store said they would take the stock but will only give store credit. this could be okay but what can we expect for a price on the stock? and then there is the rock. sand base, chemical kits and other stuff. maybe it is better to sell the whole thing as a going concern. does $500 [Canadian] sound unreasonable? the lighting is the best for a reef type aquarium. corals, anemones and only has a 100 or so hours use[$185 new], 2filters[carbon/sponge]. 2 common clown fish, a 6-line Wrassie fish, and a blue, yellow-tailed Damselfish, with 2 hermit crabs, snails and a emerald green crab. does anyone have any suggestions? |

Sorry to hear of the turn of events. I certainly empathize with you.
You can post the dry goods for sale in the For Sale or Trade Zone Forum. That is the place to sell your things here on Reefland. Store credit can be used to purchase a single item that can be resold as new/unused. But the credit amount will be up to what you and your LFS negotiate. Since you probably don't want to ship the goods but would rather have someone come pick it up, and since you're unsure of the value, you might try to advertise (even the livestock) on eBay. Let the other aquarists in your driving area bid on it all first as a package, then as pieces if the package doesn't attract any bids. Figure out what you paid for everything (itemize it). Post that in your auction or sales ad; be frank about the condition of everything; how old it is; amounts used (test kits and expiration dates); and, set a price starting at 1/3 the original investment. If you're more interested in a single sale and quickly, post a price of 1/6 to 1/10 the original investment. Good luck!
