Update!
Hello, well my clown is eating (Thanks Leebca)!!!
The problem is he is spitting everything out except the brine shrimp. I hope he doesnt only eat live food this is going to be a hassel. Any ideas on how to get him eating pellets again or frozen foods? Also, my girlfriend has a maroon fish she doesnt want anymore. I was thinking about getting it and trying to couple it with my maroon. My maroon is a light marooned clown about 3.5-4 inches hers is a dark maroon fish with gold stripes about 1.5-2 inches. Is it possible? Should I wait until he is eating prepared foods? He is alone in a 20 gallon qtank now? Thanks! |

It may be worth a try to put them together, provided that the display tank is large enough for a pair of Maroons. After they both get into the display, watch them closely for 'above normal' aggressive behavior towards one another. By all means, wait for both fish to have gone through a quarantine process and are eating properly and in full health.
The food training has to begin immediately after the fish begins to eat again. Waiting just ingrains the fish with a 'taste' for a single food. Start by mixing the (live) brine shrimp with frozen gut-loaded brine and slowly remove the living shrimp ratio. Anemonefish sometimes find it hard to resist some fresh scallop or shrimp meat. Get ye to a seafood store. Get living clams; fresh (raw) sea scallop meat; fresh (raw) sea shrimp. Mix minced chunks of the meat with the brine shrimp, reducing the ratio of brine shrimp at each feeding. Clean the living clam and open it up (use muscle, not heat). Freeze it on the half-shell. Thaw it, and put that in the tank. Daily offer a fresh small piece of algae/seaweed in the a.m. (remove uneaten algae in the p.m.). You can gut-load the living brine shrimp with a variety of things: beta glucan is one. And. . .You're welcome!

Thanks Leebca, I will try this method and hopefully he will start liking other foods again. Its really weird this maroon would eat anything and then he went to eating nothing and now only one thing. Its crazy how he just changed!
But I will give it a try and see what happens. |
