In mem of Freddie the firefish.

Having not seen Freddie for a few days, and as though a motherly instinct kicked in(except I am a father), I looked behind my tank last night to discover my poor Freddie, whom I have had for four or so years now, had leaped from my tank. This really bothered me. It has been quite some time since I have lost anyone. It's all my fault for not putting a tight fitting lid on my tank like his old one had... but I wanted to improve the waters' interaction with air. I hope you are in a better place Freddie.

Sorry for the loss. Firefish are well known jumpers.

Interaction with the room air can also be achieved through a diaphragm air pump connected to an air stone. The stone is placed at the surface of the tank water, under the cover, to bring in room air. The stone doesn't have to be submerged (to create bubbles). Since 'room air' is sometimes higher in carbon dioxide, some aquarists bring in fresh air outside the home/room by this means.

Good call on the airstone... but I have a plan allready. My ff jumped out of a 3" gap at the back of my tank(for equip). I am going to tac on a clear rubber mat that will hang down and close up the gap. Then I can still see my skimmer, still get good air interaction, and keep my remaining purple firefish in the tank. Thanks for the good idea though.
