Fungal Infection Treatments

Hi all

My Regal tang is in a bit of a sorry state

One of his eyes has gone cloudy and he has a fungal outbreak on his tail.

He is swimming about and eating fine.

Anyone got any recommendations for treatment or should I leave well alone.

Thanks

Paul.

Hi Paul.

A true fungal infection is rare in marine fishes. One of the reasons is that most fungi are opportunistic organisms -- they attack weak, undernourished, or already diseased/injured/sick fishes. However, fungal infections if allowed to get out of hand can infect more healthy fish just because they are in the same aquarium and the fungi have multiplied into large numbers.

So, you want to be sure of your diagnosis, regarding fungus. If you are unsure, please post a photo of what it is you see (closeup in focus and high resolution) and we'll do our best.

If you are still convinced it is a fungal attack, and there are other fish in the aquarium, then that infected fish needs to be moved into a hospital tank where it can be properly treated. The chemicals it needs to be treated with are not suitable for a display tank AND the infection is contagious.
