gamma improvit foods.

today i got this new food made by TMC, it clams to be 100% of the daily requirement of nutrients, vitamins and minerals for marine fish.

it ingredients in the same order as on the pack are:
fish meal, wheat, soya extract, wheat gluten, maize gluten, maize, monocalciumphosphate, krill meal, yeast, sprinula, krill, artemia salina, mysis, seaweed, astaxanthin.

typical analysis:
protein 40%
fat 6%
fibre 1.7%
ash 7.2%
moisture 35%

added vitamins
vit A
vit D3
vit E
vit C (stab)

is this any good? would this replace my current foods or just be a good one to add to the rotation?

current foods:
whole mysid shrimp
red plankton (rotfilers, copepods, all small bug lookin things, again from TMC)
omega-3 brine shrimp
whole krill
chopped nori

cheers james

Re: gamma improvit foods.

Fish don't eat: land products (soy, wheat, flour, corn, etc.). I've never heard of any farmer complaining about those pesky, raiding coral fishes devastating their crops.

Fish meal is the leftover fish 'junk' from the fishing industry. Sort of like the use of meat remnants to make dog foods.

I'm opposed to this. It may contain nutrients, but I question the form they take. I prefer natural foods -- things of and from the sea -- to feed marine fishes.

Use what has been recommended:
Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition

The appropriateness of your choice of foods depends upon what you're feeding.

i totally agree with this, but would this food not even be a means to an end? i.e. getting the vitamins inside my fish? as thats is why i got this food.

cheers james

Re: gamma improvit foods.

There are many marine food supplements available on the market. Some are vitamins, others are fats. THAT is what is used to boost vitamin/fat content of the proper marine fish foods.

You'll find many of those vitamins are actually made from sea sources!

Re: gamma improvit foods.

I'm unsure what is available in the UK. Here, we have the following to choose from:
Vitamins & Fats:
GVH by H2O Life (one kind for foods, one kind for algae)
Selco
Selcon (fats)
Vita-Chem
Zoe
Zoecon (fats)
Only buy small, fresh containers of these so you will use them up in less than 2 months. Alternate their use. Use one product for a couple of months, then switch to another.
