I feel like a bad hobbyist. My coral Quarantine tank had a salinity level of 1.015 and I didn’t even know it. I noticed this cause some of my brain corals are not doing so well and my peppermint shrimp died. Can I just jump the level up or do i have to do it gradually? Leebca?
Thanks! |

Re: Raising Salinity?
No use in feeling bad. You're not the first and won't be the last. We've all let things 'slip' unfortunately. Just be sure you're getting an accurate reading.
In this hobby gradual and slowly is the key. In the case of raising salinity, going slow is very important. Organisms have a hard time adjusting to a rise in salinity -- it takes a lot of energy out of them. I'd recommend raising the specific gravity by about 0.003 per day until you get it to where it belongs. This should not take you too long since you're not terribly low.
