Blue Tang MHLLE?

My blue tang was found this morning wrapped around my filter inlet tube. Upon removing it, it swam into a corner and stopped moving on its side. There are white patches on it's side where it looks like the skin is missing. Can somebody help me with this and is there any treatment I can use and do I have any hope. Please Help!!!

Re: Blue Tang MHLLE?

WELCOME TO REEFLAND!

Sorry to hear of the problem. A fish caught by the intake is usually not the fault of the intake -- usually it is the fault of a sick fish.

The fish should be removed to a hospital tank where it can receive quiet and full attention without distraction from tankmates and away from other intakes.

The condition you describe doesn't happen over night, but is often a slow deterioration of the fish. So some background information on the fish would be of use: How long have you had this fish? When did it start to show signs of abnormality? What size is this fish?

Then there are issues of nutrition. Has the fish received proper nutrition? What has been fed to this fish? Has it been eating?

For now, moving the fish is most important. The other thing good to do is help the fish recover and repair its mucous coating. Tangs don't have a very thick mucous coating, so they need all the help they can get in this area.

Obtain one or both of these products and use them on the fish in QT: Pro Tech Coat Marine and StressGuard may be used as a temporary mucus layer, or to help the fish repair its mucous layer, for fish that have been transported, netted, otherwise injured, or because of disease or illness, have damaged or lost some or all of their mucous coating.

After you get back to us with additional information, more may be suggested. This will help regarding setting up a hospital tank, which is a version of a quarantine tank:
