My Flame Angel
My flame angel had suddenly become very inactive as he is constantly hiding and acting scared. He looks quite beat up with some torn fins, and has started to create a large bubble over his eye. I am thinking my maroon clownfish has been attacking him but i am not sure i havent seen it occur what should i do?

Re: My Flame Angel
webbster,
I moved your thread to this forum so you can get an expert opinion from our resident fish keeping guru Leebca. I think, basically, that it would be prudent if you could move your angelfish to a separate( hospital) tank where you could let it recover and perhaps treat him for his injured eye with antibiotics, if you have a separate tank, of course.

Re: My Flame Angel
I would wait until Lee replies to your question about antibiotics. In the meantime, why not browse through his sticky threads in this forum? I;m pretty sure you will find usefull information in them.

Re: My Flame Angel
How big is your Flame Angelfish? I know both of your Maroon Clownfish are only about 1" long. I can't imagine a Maroon Clown that small picking on a larger Flame Angelfish but I guess anything's possible.

Re: My Flame Angel
Your fish was acting like it was afraid of something in the display tank. If Ninong is correct, it would seem that a very small Anemonefish wouldn't likely be the culprit. But, while you decide what the cause is/was, the fish should be treated just as zhenya has indicated.
If the eye is swollen, and it is a bacterial infection, then the bacteria are likely to be inside the fish. For these kinds of infections you want to use an antibiotic that goes through the skin of the fish and kills bacteria on the surface as well as the systemic ones. There are two primary such antibiotics. Maracyn Two for Saltwater Fish and Spectrogram. The antibiotic in Spectrogram is a suspected human carcinogen. Handle it with disposable gloves. During antibiotic treatment, reduce the lighting in the QT and maintain water quality at its best. If you choose to use the Maracyn Two product, make the first dosage TWICE what is suggested on the packaging/instructions.

Re: My Flame Angel
webbster45,
I'm not sure how new you are to the hobby. However, these links take you to posts that may help you with the treatment process: A Fish Quarantine Process Most fish should be able to cure themselves or prevent a typical bacterial infection. If your fish wasn't 'attacked' but developed this infection on its own, then there are stressors at work. The primary one is poor nutrition. If a fish isn't getting the proper foods, vitamins and fats, it will be susceptible to bacterial infections. For proper foods, see here: Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition During recovery, you want to feed your fish the best foods (see above) but you also want to provide extra nutritional aid to help the fish recover. Such supplements are called Immune Boosters. This link explains this further, and I recommend that all fish in recovery from a condition be provided immune boosters in their food: Fish Immune Boosters If your fish is getting the proper nutrition and no other fish is terrorizing it, then another source of stress includes water quality. After water quality, there are many other stressors best left to its own post, which you'll find here: Stress (and the Single Marine Fish) Plenty to learn/read if you are new to the hobby!
