Medicated food and hyposalinity
The sticky thread "Strange Excrement from Fish..." gives medicated food by Jungle as an alternative to Praziquantrel. I was able to get my hands on both the food for treatment of internal parasite and the food with anti-biotics. Both direct a 4 week treatment.
The question is "does anyone know if either can be used while in QT under hypo conditions"? If not, this QT process will be getting longer and longer. Thanks in advance Rob |

Re: Medicated food and hyposalinity
Rob,
Ingested medications are usually safe while performing hyposalinity treatments. Medications added to the water for a water treatment act very differently in hyposaline solutions and therefore, you don't want to use those meds without expressed approval from the med manufacturer. The de-worming medication from Jungle will be okay in the hyposalinity treatment. I'm unsure about the antibiotic treatment. Some perform well, most will take on a strong activity in hyposaline, so I would request from Jungle or whatever source if it is okay to use that in a hyposalinity treatment. If your fish is having a bacterial problem, you can forgo the use of medicated food with antibiotics. I would prefer using an antibiotic that worked BOTH the surface and systemic regions of the fish. Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes dosed at the recommended rate on the package in a hyposalinity QT I know to be okay. As a 'bonus' the Maracyn Two treatment is only needed for 5 days.

Re: Medicated food and hyposalinity
Thanks Lee, as always, good information. Just an observation, the blue dot jawfish has really picked up an appetite following 5 days of the Jungle parasite food.
