Angelfishes don't eat heartily, in general. They have been 'clocked' at picking 5 times a minute in the wild. They can't do much picking in the captive life that provides them a meal. So when food is offered, they still tend to pick at it.

Young Angelfish usually remain pretty thin. Your French Angelfish is just beginning its transition from the juvenile markings so would probably remain rather thin for a couple more years. Still, if you are feeding at least 3 times a day, it should slowly gain weight.

Considering how it does eat, it is very important to provide the best and most nutritious foods and nutrition you can provide.

Frenchies and Blacks are normally observed picking on the bottom in the wild. I have witnessed them grazing on the reefs here in Florida on many diving excursions. I would recommend putting some green seaweed on a seaweed clip, placed on or near the bottom. They love this. Keep the seaweed in the tank for an extended period, for they do like to pick and go. Supplement his diet with high protein as well.
