Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

Hi

i brought a emperor angel at 4 inch, which was shipped to my house the bag kind of leak and he had a little water left in the bag. I'm sure the water has gone bad, as I was able to open the box a hour later.

After floating bag and drip method ..I put him in a 10 gallon qt tank.

I notice he has a little cloud spot on the tail fin. I have not put med in it yet. I am 100 percent this is not ich. It is not white spots, is little white cloud.

he is swimming fine and breathing and acting very normal. but I have not feed him yet to ruin the water condition.

the water is Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 and nitrate 10 , the water was taken out of my main tank.

There is no Live rock or sand in the tank and I am using a whisper 10 filter.

Will the cloud heal by itself or should I put some med in it..if I do which kind?

I have prazi pro and (metafix and primfix but both expire but they did get rid of ich on my goldfish even expire) in stock.

I can take a pic ..

P.S does Prazi pro hurts rocks can it be put in main tank, my tank does not have coral only around 20 pounds of live rock (3 pieces)

thanks..

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

WELCOME TO REEFLAND!

An Emperor Angelfish of that size needs a quarantine tank of no less than 30 gallons. Its final destination tank should be no less than 125 gallons, then in about a year or two it will require a tank no less than a 240 gallon capacity. These and most large adult Angelfishes need a lot of space in captivity.

The shipment was extremely stressful on such a fish. It may have caught a bacterial infection because of the stress and lowered resistance. If the fish is not eating, it will need medication for sure. If the fish is eating the correct foods, with vitamin and fat supplements, it may come around on its own. You'll find some good feeding tips and information here: Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition

The treatment would be to give it antibiotics while it is in a quarantine tank (with no other marine life, nor live rock). I favor Maracyn Two for Saltwater Fishes. So even if you don't want to treat now, get some of this and have it on hand in case the infection spreads.

Prazi Pro works best to rid fish of parasites. Although at some point you want to de-worm the fish, this is not that time and, the cloudy eye will not be cured by Prazi Pro.

You'll find a lot of good information here on Reefland and in this Forum. You say you used Melafix and Pimafix. Here is a post on them:

Hi Lee

While he is still in QT Is there a way train him to some pellets. As he now only eating mysis shrimp. Should I strave him for a few days?

Thanks

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

Pellets and flake foods are the low end of providing good solid nutrition to your fish. I use pellets and flakes about once or twice out of every 21 feedings. If you look at the feeding reference, you'll read about what the best kinds of foods are for this fish.

Sometimes, presentation helps when it comes to getting fish to eat. You may find some tips in this post: Food Presentation

You can mix foods in with other foods to 'wean' the fish onto other foods.

Starving is not a good approach. You want to be smarter than the fish by disguising some of the foods it should be eating, in with the food it will eat. Find prepared products that contain mysis and other ingredients, for instance, to introduce those other foods.

The Angeles need seaweed, also so be sure to offer macro algae on clips or, as noted above, presented in different ways to the fish.

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

Lee, it seem my emperor now has extremly long fences (white) is thin around 6 inches and still connected to his body but not thread like. As is now hanging out in the corner. He does seem to head in the top corner and top a little more. Should I now treat him with him PraziPro. Double dosage?

Or go with marcy 2...

Today is the 3rd day i have him. Should I move him from a 10 gallon to 30 gallon qt tank?

thanks.

Interesting I notice he has has 2 poo running. One is thicker and one is thinner. The thicker one is shorter and they are both hanging on him. He is still eating and swimming though.

Hope I can cure him

thanks

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

I would move the fish to the larger QT for sure. Make water changes NOT with tank water but with new made up saltwater only.

The feces is indicative of an internal parasite. Getting the cure inside the fish is the most effective cure.

You can treat with an antibiotic while treating for internal/intestinal parasites if you use Maracyn 2 for Saltwater fishes and Praziquantel or another food additive cure, mixed into the food. You'll find deworming information in this post: Strange Excrement from Fish -or- How to be a Super Pooper Snooper

Lee,

Does this mean that all fish from this online retailer means it has internal parasites? does is it spread through like ich?

thanks

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

Not necessarily. I think you've seen at some point in your experience in the hobby or have heard of a fish that eats another fish's feces. This is how it is spread. Wild fish have a large percentage of infection, but in the wild the fish can and does get enough nutrition to feed itself and the parasites.

When fish are caught and brought in close proximity with each other, the opportunity to spread increases.

Re: Hi, shipping gone wrong..please help

Hi Lee..

I was wondering what to do in the QT tank with the ammonia spike it seem the marcy 2 has killed the good bacteria in the QT tank.

Do I just keep changing water with new salt water ..what level should I keep the ammonia?

thanks
