Do snails need to be QT?

Hi Lee

I just brought a few Nassarius snails. I want to put them in display tank to eat some alge or if there is any leftovers.

Should I give them the fish QT process. I would hate for them to give anything to my display tank. Is very hard to find any info on them about QT.

I would like to go the best route.

thanks

Re: Do snails need to be QT?

I posted a similar question not too long ago. The advise given was that anything added to the DT should, or must, go through the QT process. Snails can inadvertantly carry one or more of the stages of marine ich as can a very small amount of water that may get transferred from the bag to the tank.

The only way to be certain marine ich or other organisms don't end up in the DT is to perform a proper QT.

This is good reading, emperorangel:

rjs5134 is correct.

Be clear that Nassarius sp. snails are carnivores and eat leftover meaty fish foods, dead fish, etc., but not algae.

Re: Do snails need to be QT?

Anti Parasite food containing drugs will most likely kill the snails.
