Disease ID

Hi Lee,

This is another one of those tricky "look like brook" disease ID question I have. However due to the circumstances, this really does not seem like the typical brooknella with respect to the duration in the QT.

This is not the best setup for QT but this QT has been setup since teh beginning of June when the first fish arrived. The last fish was introduced in the 6/30 and has been in this QT for over 1.5 months. All of the fish were eating. It contains 2 Latezonatus clownfish, 1 allardi clownfish and one tank raised ocellaris (that accidentially jumped into the QT, so it has to be QTed together). All the fish has been eating and no signs of disease except of the latezonatus clown that seems to have a very thin whitish film on it, however it does not seem to affect it much with a moderate faster breathing. I tried to put the tank through water change and a formalin3 10mL per 10Gallon (as recommended by Kordon, as a normal usage, not bath dosage) and seems to get it better.

Until I went on a bit more than a week vacation and just came back, I found that fish to have a much more whitish film on it and start to have some "dry skin peeling" look to it. I took some pictures attached, you can see that that other latezonatus clownfish is fully dark and does not have that same pale white coloration. It seems that this disease/parasite does not directly affect other fish as it is never shown on them. And being in a QT for > 1 month, I kinda doubt that it is brook also, since brook usually hit around first 3-7th day; also it seems to have lived with these symptoms for around 2-3 weeks although the white film is not as apparent as now.

At this point, I have not taken them immediately out for a formalin bath as I have seen how stressful it can be, so I thought I would consult you first.

Also attached a video in case picture is burry.

Thanks for any insights

Re: Disease ID

It may or may not be brooklynellosis. Although timing is a factor, fishes have displayed brooklynellosis months after captivity.

If the Formalin3 helped, then I'd perform the Formalin bath.

Re: Disease ID

Thanks Lee, I will proceed with the formalin bath and see if it improves. Otherwise, the fish seems to stay sidways on top of water (probably improve breathing) but very responsive to feeding.
