whats wrong with clown fishes eye?

its been like this for a few weeks now i was hoping it would clear up with increased feeding, but it hasnt, it doesnt seem to effect her in anyway she still feed fine doesnt flick against rock at all.

any ideas what it is and how to treat it?

I doesn't look like a cloudy eye to me. It looks more like Popeye. The fish is probably still alive because of the good way you take care of it.

i dont think its pop eye as the eye isnt poping out its more like the film over the eye has gas under it. it has poped once and i thought it was gone but it returned.

i do have a few steril hyperdermic needles @ 25G, 5/8", 0.5mm

You can anesthetize the fish and relieve the gas pressure, but the gas is coming from somewhere and needs to be stopped, in my opinion.

Some people just let it go, but fish have died in this condition.

how would go about treeting this, Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes?

Exactly. You need an antibiotic that goes into the system from the water. Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes at double the initial dose.

The infection producing gas is internal, maybe even around the ocular cavity or nerve.

i take it this will reqire removing the clown fish into a QT tank?
does Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes effect the bacteria in the nitrogen cycle?

The bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate is not affected by this kind of antibiotic. However, it is still best to move the fish into a QT for the best treatment. The antibiotic can kill things in and on live rock and in live sand.

Also, antibiotics can be affected by light, UV, ozone, carbon absorbents, skimmer, etc. During treatment, the lights should be kept dimmed on the QT.

If the aquarium is FO without any LR, I would treat the fish in the marine system.

i was going to put it into a QT tank but will need to make a sponge filter active first how long will it tank a sponge filter active enough to cope with a single 3" clown? in a 20 gal tank

It will probably take about 3 to 7 weeks.

Alternatively, chemical filtration is an option as is frequent water changes.
