    Question Clown with small Bubble on Eye?!?!?

    Hello Leebca, its been a while

    My Question:
    I have a false pericula (clown fish) and everything seems fine but one of his eyes has a very tiny clear bubble on it. Could that be some type of disease? I have seen Popeye and flux it looks nothing like those. What could this be?

    Thanks!

    There are conditions that can cause some out-gassing. Those are covered in this post: Popeye -- NOT the Sailor

    If the eye remains clear and the 'bubble' does not increase in size then probably the best thing to do is not treat it. On the other hand, it could be bacterial in nature, so you can help the fish with its attempts to fight off a bacterial infection by doing a few things:

    1. Make sure the fish is getting the proper nutrition and quantity;
    2. Make sure water quality is perfect;
    3. Do a maintenance on the system and remove detritus and excess organics;
    4. Make sure the skimmer and activated carbon (if you use both) are working to their fullest potential; and
    5. As soon as you can, perform a large (50%) water change.

    Generally not. The bacteria that cause this problem have infected the eye, ocular cavity or the optic nerve of the fish. This is not a common occurrence, nor can it be said it will spread to other fish.

    However, the bacteria that cause this are in the aquarium and if there are any other fishes that have low resistance, they are susceptible.
