brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
Hi Lee
it seem now my 4 inch juvi emperor has develop a pimple on the white stripe line on the body. And the bottom part of the body seem to have 2 brown spot bumps. I have him at QT tank for a while now. At first I was treating with Marcy 2 for 5 days. Double dosage first day. after the Macy 2 treatment was over I went to the anti parasite food made by Jungle in the QT tank and he had no problem eating. but it seem I had a ammonia spike. I did do immediate water change. Could it had lead to the symptoms. His fins have no signs of white or his body. Could it be ich or velvet, bacteria infection? what to do next? thank you |

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
I would need a photo to be sure or to give me a better clue as to what may be going on.
I don't think the ammonia spike would exhibit like you described. Are they perfectly round or might they be in the shape of a sesame seed? You need to give me a size estimate, too. But the photo will be most helpful for this. Did this fish ever get a FW dip after acclimation?

Hi Lee
it seems the white dots are now everywhere in the QT tank but when these white dots land on the glass I can see them crawl. Also the fainted on the lines are brown pimples poping out, are they anchor worms. Anyway hope the pics works. thanks, what to give him next? |

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
I think a FW bath, getting rid of the 'crawly critters' and then addressing possible worms the FW bath didn't get would be the way forward.
Have a complete water change ready. Match pH, temp. and salinity of the fish's current water. See this for details: How to Make a Successful Water Change This fish will be fine in a 30 minute FW bath. Follow the guidelines I've posted here: Freshwater Dip for Marine Fishes While the fish is in the FW bath, clean out the current QT. Discard all equipment. You want to get rid of those critters for now. They most likely are pods of some sort, but you don't want them around for the treatment nor to risk that they are bothering the fish. Clean the tank as if it was diseased: hot tap water; let cool; vinegar 1:10 dilution of household; cool tap water rinses; several RO/DI or distilled water rinses; wipe dry. Return the fish from the FW dip into the cleaned out tank. Inspect the fish closely for those 'bumps' that are popping out to see if there has been any change.

Hi Lee,
Lee I can't seem to find any meth blue in my LFS (out of stock), I need to order it online. Is there any med I could use while I wait for it to arrive to get rid of the round brown bumps. And are those white dots ich? thanks P.S I'm going to try to take a closer pic to see if you can identify what is the brown bumps. |

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) wouldn't move around as you described. There is a possibility that the fish has Marine Ich and the white things you see are different. I assumed that the white things on the fish were the 'crawly' things you saw on the glass.
If the white specs on the fish are not the moving critters you see on the glass, then I would assume the fish has Marine Ich and treat accordingly. Put the Methylene Blue on order. You'll do the FW dip after the QT procedure, IF the fish has Marine Ich. The Marine Ich must be cured first. There are two primary ways to cure fish of Marine Ich: 1. Hyposalinity (easy on fish; harder on hobbyist) Hyposalinity Treatment ; or 2. Copper treatment (hardest on fish; easiest on hobbyist) Copper - Treatment, Use, Problems

Hi Lee
This morning my friend gave some instant ocean Life guard, after the 30 percent water change I went ahead and use it. It seems the white dots have disappear after using it, so I'm going to skip using seachem cupra on him. I think I am sure is some kind of dark worm that is on his body. Unfortunely I try 2 different cameras still cannot take the worm or spot. it will probably take till next monday before the meth blue arrive, what treatment should I give him? Should I get some Instant Ocean Life guard and use it on him. Also I notice he seem to be breathing on one side of his gill is this normal or the parasites has attacked one side? I have left him in the basement, but it seems each time I arrive the basement and turn on the light he would swim to the front and stand still I would hate to lose him . thanks |

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
I would proceed to give a FW dip without the MB. Limit the time in the FW dip to only 10 minutes, so long as the fish is doing okay. Follow the procedure, just not adding the MB.
The MB helps the fish breath and keeps it calm, however, under the circumstances of such a long wait. . . Those brown spots may be susceptible to the FW dip. Since the Guard worked (or seems to have worked) those spots were not Marine Ich.

Well I got my meth blue and did a 30 minute bath as you suggested. It seem the brown pimple is still there. From my LFS he suggested I try Clout or coppersafe. Are these med I should be trying next? What to do next? Can it be manually taken off of him? Or should I just give up and put him back in display tank? Enjoy your holiday weekend |

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
Glad you finally got the MB. Since the organism isn't responding to FW, then it might respond to organophosphate. I think before you give up, you want to treat with an organophosphate.
Organophosphate treatments aren't easy to find. Clout contains an organophosphate, but I don't like using it because it contains 3 other ingredients that are dangerous to the fish. One of them is a nerve agent. If you do decide to use Clout, follow directions carefully, watch the fish for any signs of stress or problems and be prepared to get the fish away from the Clout as soon as possible. Don't begin this treatment until you know how to stop it and get rid of the Clout quickly. Another treatment is to use something called Fluke Tabs. This contains an organophosphate without those other ingredients. You're looking for a product, made for saltwater fish, that contains Trichlorfon (a.k.a. Dylox, Metriphonate, Dyacide, and about a dozen other names). This is the preferred organophosphate. Hope you have a good holiday, too!

Re: brown pimples appear and little bump on Emperor
Hi Lee
Unfortunely I used Clout, this morning I woke up to find the emperor has pass away and the brown pimple has invaded the whole body. It was doing fine and eating before the clout was put in last night. I had used Clout on my goldfish so i thought it couldn't be that unsafe. Just curious could it have been the fw bath (temp and ph exactly the same). 2 days after bath before I used clout. Could it had been acum? thanks Lee Last edited by emperorangel; 09-05-2007 at 02:22 PM. |
