Longnose hawkfish and shrimp

Hello, this is my first post. I have searched the forums and have found similar concerns, but none have directly addressed my predicament. I LOVE the longnose hawkfish, and I also LOVE shrimp! I know that these two, when mixed, can have problems. Namely, the shrimp being eaten when shedding. Is there any way to keep these two in the same tank without fatalities?
I came up with perhaps adding a shrimp that is larger than the hawkfish...???

PS My tank is a 30g long, with a pygmy angel, hawkfish, emrald crab, bi-color blennie, and damsel.
THANKS

Re: Longnose hawkfish and shrimp

WELCOME TO REEFLAND!

I'm afraid the Hawkfish will grow to the size where it will challenge the shrimp.

However, if the shrimp is given enough hiding places the fish can't get in to (not as easy as it sounds), and the fish is kept well fed, it may accept the shrimp as a tank mate rather than food. The way to do this is to have the shrimp in the tank, already established, before the Hawkfish is introduced.

Your aquarium is overstocked now. I'd find another home for at least on of those fishes. You might want to read this: Fish Stocking Limit - for FO and FOWLR
