Re: Problem with Female Clownfish
Just thought I'd give a quick update. The clownfish has recovered and is back in the main display tank. Eats well and looks very good! I very much appreciate the advise I received here!
Too anyone who may look over this thread in the future, I will say that it pays to try and treat the animals in your care. Not only are you responsible for doing so, you will learn a lot in the process. That in turn will benefit all of the current and future animals you keep under your care. |

Re: Problem with Female Clownfish
I wish everyone, everywhere could read your last post.
I am fighting a (sometimes) losing battle in another Forum where a group of hobbyists insist the 'best' approach is to let the fish be ill/sick/infected since 'that is the way they are in the wild.' So few grasp that in a captive environment the parasite has captive food and the host can't get away. Two major differences between the 'wild' and the 'captive life.' Parasites don't kill their hosts. Otherwise the parasite would not reproduce and live! But in the captive environment, the parasite just overwhelms its host and causes death MUCH more frequently than in the wild. I think you've done an excellent and diligent job. Glad you're in the hobby!

Re: Problem with Female Clownfish
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. I was hanging on every post hoping for an update. I am so glad your fish recovered. I feel the same way you do...we are responsible for these little creatures and we need to do our best to take care of them.
I am dealing with intestinal parasites in my clown right now. I am headed to the fish store to get the jungle stuff. I have only had her 11 days and about 2 days ago she stopped eating and i saw the dreaded 'white string'. I got some live brine shrimp soaked in selcon to try and stimulate her appetite. I will try the mar 2 for saltwater treatment next, but i have her in a nano cube with some soft corals so i will have to check on how that will effect them...I may move them to my 72gl if i can't get her out in a separte qt... Anyway. I am glad to read that they can recover from this...i have all the 'right' foods handy for when she starts to eat again. Wish me luck! |
