Lymphocystis is often brought on by nutritional deficiency or water quality issues. It's like the common human cold. It shows up when things go wrong. To get it to go away you have to make things right. Find out what's wrong and make it right.
If the growth has a clumpy look to it, like cauliflower, then it is most likely Lymphocystis. This has most often been mistaken for either a true or 'fake' fungal infection. In the case of fungus, strands like a cotton ball could be seen in the clump and the fish would need isolation and treatment.
