White Fuzz on Tail & Fin

Lee,

One of my angels has a little white growth about 1/2 cm in size on his tail, on one of the fins, and at the tip of the gill plate spine. Each of the white growths is larger then an ick spot but i'm not sure if the diagnosis would be lymphocystis and I know I am not making this easy because I have no pics to supply. I understand that medicine we have can't cure this virus. But I understand that there are different strains that effect fish and that they can be passed on to same or closely releated species, which makes me nervous because I have two angels in the same tank.

So if it is lymp I can't do anything about it. But is there anything that resembles lymp that it could possibly be?

Thanks a million!

Re: White Fuzz on Tail & Fin

Lymphocystis is often brought on by nutritional deficiency or water quality issues. It's like the common human cold. It shows up when things go wrong. To get it to go away you have to make things right. Find out what's wrong and make it right.

If the growth has a clumpy look to it, like cauliflower, then it is most likely Lymphocystis. This has most often been mistaken for either a true or 'fake' fungal infection. In the case of fungus, strands like a cotton ball could be seen in the clump and the fish would need isolation and treatment.
