Please help me!
All my stuff was fine and then all of the sudden everything started dying in my tank and it happened so quick. One fish looked sick and by the time he died there were two more dead and last week my last one died. But atleast my shrimp is still kickin! I have a 55gal. tank and its fish and corals (well used to be) I have done 3 water changes in the past week and tested for amonnia, nitrate, nitrite, ph, and salinity (everything is perfect) and still my tank keeps getting worse. I ONLY have a cleaner shirmp left and some unhealthy corals. I also have that protein skimmer that gives your tank micro bubbles. I have had it turned off for about a month now and still I am getting these bubbles (they seem to come after the water change and never go away?) Please if you have any advice I am willing to try anything! Thank you for taking the time to read this and help me out! |

Re: Help...Everythings dying!!
Unfortunately I am struggling to keep my own tank alive so I may not be of much help but I can give you 3 pieces of advice.
1. Turn on your protein skimmer!!! 2. Make sure your water temperature stays constant. (Had a fault heater a few weeks back) 3. Make a trouble shooting check list for next time this sh.."stuff" happens. |

Re: Help...Everythings dying!!
Hi fishfanatic,
There's a lot of information that's needed in order to be helped properly. We need information like: 1. The tank: How long has it been up? What exactly is or was in it? 2. the water: perfect?? what's that mean? please provide specific numbers. was there any additives added to it? 3. The livestock: What kind of fish and corals? one dead anemone could wipe out an entire tank that size.

Re: Help...Everythings dying!!
As beguile indicated, there is a lot of missing information for anyone to provide reasonable help.
It sounds as if the tank has a high organics level in it. It is the skimmer's job to remove excess protein. The test kits test for a few things only. There is much to water quality that you have to look for in order to determine the water is good. This is a good read on that: What is Water Quality. Do you have a deep sand bed? Have you kept maintenance up? Is there detritus anywhere in the system? Anyone put something into the system (that turned out to be a poison?) As you can see, there are dozens of possibles and without details of your system, it is hard to help. Right now your best course would be to continue daily large water changes following this guideline: How to Make a Successful Water Change Good luck!
