Size for QT?

O.K. Heres my question... I have a 40b set up as a QT, My wife and I went to the fish store..... (heres the part your dreading) and saw a wonderful Yellow Tang, we picked it up as the particular fish store does not have a good reputation at all. and it was healthy looking.... well I obviously overestimated the relative size of my QT bacause this fish was not going to fit confertably for any length of time....
so I'm sorry to say - he was slowly aclimated and introduced to the display tank. theres no visible problems (and I will keep my eye out)

At what point does the size of the fish and the size of the QT meet and become detrimental to the health of the fish and the purpose of QT?
the YT is @10"

thx for your help. .

Re: Size for QT?

As a general worse-case scenario the fish will be kept in quarantine for a couple of months. Most fish can and do tolerate a confined space for a short time. What happens with marine fish is that space constraints are a ‘chronic’ stress. That is, it is a little bit over a continuous, long period of time, which harms them by shortening their lifespan and making them more susceptible to disease and other problems.

In the post on quarantine: A Fish Quarantine Process
I offer a relatively simple suggestion that, for most fish (the ones that do not have special needs) a QT should be sized as follows: About 5-7 gallons for every inch of fish.
