Dog Poop in Aquarium

I found this morning that my son had put some dog poop in the aquarium. Will this cause any major harm? I am doing a good cleaning in the morning.

I'd do a good sized water change and make sure that any corn doesn't clog up any of your powerheads! J/K, about the corn part!

Re: Dog Poop in Aquarium

The bacteria both in the aquarium and coming along with the fecal matter probably won't respond too quickly. Get it out and just do the large (over 50%) water change as Bullet suggested.

Everything is done and all is well since I did a Ich prevention treatment as well. Does anyone know how long after I add the dosage can I put my filter media in?

From a aquarium company here in midland, tx uses it in all of the aquariums that they have set up at their clients homes, offices, hospitals, and restrauants. I payed for him to come over and apply it. I think he said something of about ich be gone. I also use the 100% pure garlic juice in the food.

oh the reason for the ich preventive treatment is because of my Blue Hippo Tang since I had to do such a large water change and him only being in there for 2 weeks.

Ha! that's pretty funny! Reminds me of something similar that happened last year.

My daughter and me/I (I never get those right ) were taking care of her ex boyfriends pets while he was away for a few months, pets consisted of a 40 gallon fresh water tank a bunch of mice and a 4' Royal Python.

Anyways we get there one day and there was a huge turd in the bottom of the tank, it was about the size of a man's thumb but twice as long. We were looking at it and scratching our heads over this cuz we were the only ones with keys, no cats, no dogs.... so we scoop it out, ewwww! gross! Then go feed the snake only to see that he's missing!!!!!!

So why would a snake go poop in the fish tank??? We finally found him about 3 weeks later in the back of a really messy closet. He was fine and pretty hungry, needless to say, I'm not the one who fished him out of the closet!

Re: Dog Poop in Aquarium

Pythons like water. They are excellent swimmers. It was probably taking a swim when nature called.

Re: Dog Poop in Aquarium

Could he have eaten a fish or two? I never did inventory in that tank so I don't know if there were missing fish. If he did eat a few at least he wasn't as hungry as I thought!

Re: Dog Poop in Aquarium

Pythons in general, eat land creatures, favoring the constrictor form of killing. Most don't like getting their face wet, but do enjoy a soak if not a swim. Not likely to hunt or eat fish.
