coral banded claw
while doing a water change because the tank seems to enjoy randomly exploding every saturday. No clue why it does this as my ammonia is at 0 salinity at 1.025. RO/DI water TDS at 1 water temp at 79. so back to the point. i'm considering having the tank drilled so i was pulling my coral banded out aparently his claw got stuck in the net. inspite of me being extra careful he still pulled off his own claw. question is will it grow back or do i risk losing him? also i still cant figure out why my tank turns completely green every saturday. through out the week i seem to have a diatom problem. i hope it isnt dinoflagellates. at this point i have no real reason to beleive the later. i just hope someone here can help. |

Re: coral banded claw
From my experiance with the CBS is that he will most likely be fine and will just do with losing the claw. It will just take it alittle longer to do what it used to do.

Re: coral banded claw
Ours always sheds completely, if all goes well, next time he sheds he will have his claw back. Ours lost both of them once but after the following shed they were both back, I felt kind of bad for him while they were gone

Re: coral banded claw
Regarding the 'green' effect. Start collecting data: do nitrate tests daily and record the number. Do phosphate tests every other day and record the number. Use actual test kits that measure these accurately and closely.

Re: coral banded claw
Choose kits that are not outdated and are easy to handle, easy to follow directions, and the results are easy to read. Ask your LFS to show you how to use any kit you are about to buy or ask to see how it is used. Most will help you.
If the LFS refuses to offer a demo or counseling, then choose a Salifert test kit for saltwater for nitrate and phosphate.
