Help identify. Clownfish disease?
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my maroon clown?
This happened about two weeks ago. I blasted some aptasia with hot water the day before he started to look like this. Could that have any thing to do with it? |

Re: Help identify. Clownfish disease?
I don't know why, but I am unable to see the picture. I see a very small box with "img" in it, but no picture. Maybe someone knows what is happening.
While I wait for someone to tell me how to see the picture, or for you to try and post the picture again in some other way, I would ask these questions: 1. The size of your display tank. When did it cycle? How old is it now? 2. What temperature was the water? What kind of water did you use (distilled, tap, RO/DI, or ?)? 3. How long have you had this fish? What is it's size? Is it wild-caught? did you quarantine the fish before putting it into your display? Waiting to hear (and see). ![]()

Re: Help identify. Clownfish disease?
Thanks Ninong. Not to bright on my part to have missed going there.
tantang, It appears to be an advanced case of bacterial infection. If you will reply to my previous post's questions, I may be able to spot the cause for this. The fish is not as filled out as I would like to have it, although you said it has been dealing with this condition for about two weeks. You can help the fish heal, but it will require a lot of effort. Move the fish into a quarantine tank. Treat the fish with two kinds of antibiotics -- one for Gram Negative bacteria and one for Gram Positive bacteria. I would suggest Maracyn One and Maracyn Two. If you can get the ones for saltwater fishes, that would be good, but not necessary. Perform a 10 day treatment (not a 5-day treatment as recommended on the packaging). Also, add twice the quantity of Maracyn Two (just Two not One) than is recommended on the package. Using both of these antibiotics will mean that there will be little or no functioning biological filter in the quarantine tank. Be prepare to make water changes daily if not twice a day. They will need to be large water changes (over 60%) and follow the guidelines here: How to Make a Successful Water Change During treatment, make sure the fish is getting the proper foods with vitamin and fat supplements. Hope you've read this: Feeding Marine Fish and Fish Nutrition If you haven't read this, then please do and follow the guidelines. This fish is an omnivore and needs seaweed/veggies in its diet. If you make the effort to save this fish, it will require time and expense on your part.
