    Poison and Treatment

    Lee,

I think I accidentally poisoned one of my tanks. I noticed that some of the paint on the drywall was peeling off, and I think some pieces must have fallen and dissolved into the water. While in this tank, the fish were hiding and refusing to eat.

    1) Are these symptoms consistent with what you'd expect from poisoning?

I moved the fish to a "clean tank" where water quality is good. After moving them, they are definitely encouraged by the other fish eating.

    3) Will it be possible to save these fish so that they start to eat again?

    Thanks.

    Re: Poison and Treatment

Symptoms of poisoning include lethargy, hiding, stop eating, and almost any one or combo of those symptoms related to stressors.

A very large water change is the first step. Multiple very large water changes is the best procedure.

    Re: Poison and Treatment

Very consistent with what I saw happening. I know it's not my water quality, because in my other systems (far from the paint), the fish are eating well & swimming actively.

So I moved the fish already. Some have started to swim, I just really hope the decide to eat!
