I planned to do that. My tank water is fine though. My mistake was panicking and trying copper in the quarantine when the female clown was looking really bad from the lymph. I had to pull out the carbon filters and after that the water started going bad. Large water changes helped keep the toxin levels down but until I get my own place I can't pre-make enough saltwater to do large water changes. Eventually mixing by the litre likely stressed them to death.

Trying to think of options to increase the amount of prepared water. One possibility is using the sump (after shutting down the return pump, skimmer and emptying the sump) to mix new saltwater. It's still small but I can mix around 10g in it leave it for several hours until salinity and temp match then turn the return pump and skimmer back on. My main tank will still have the mechanical Topfin 60 filter running on it so it can run without the sump/skimmer for short time periods. I wouldn't be able to keep sand or plants in the sump for pH balancing though unless I keep them in a seperate compartment from the mixing.

RO/DI unit will likely go in the stand hung above the sump so I figure using the sump to mix should work out ok since it's right there.

Your tank water is not fine if you're using untreated tap water.

I meant that it was fine as far as saltwater and reef water testing kit's measured. My bad, I should have been more specific.

It wasn't quite untreated tap water. It did go through a Brita water filter. I know that's not much but better then nothing. It was also treated to remove chlorine.

In any case now that I have an RO/DI I will be replacing that water.
