    Reef-Safe Ich Treatment

I recently had a bad outbreak of ich a few weeks ago in my reef tank. Here's the deal; I do not have room for a quarantine tank, especially for the number of fish I have so removing them is not an option. I've tried Kick-ich and Chem-Marin's Stop parasite solution and nothing is working.

I have a UV Sterilizer on the tank, but that was not helping like it has in the past. For the Kick-ich treatment, I did not turn off the UV sterilizer or take out the filter pad in the filter during treatment like I did for the Chem-Marin's treatment (as recommended). Am I doing something wrong? Should I try turning off the UV with the Kick-Ich and removed any absorbant media? Any other treatments that worked for others without removing the fish?

    Re: Reef-Safe Ich Treatment

YES!!!! I went through the same scenerio. I purchased a product called Ick-Attack. I removed ALL activated carbon from the system then added the treratment as per the directions. for me it was 40mL. I did this for about a week while leaving my UV sterilizer on. After the treatment, I did a 20% water change and let the tank run for about a month without adding anything in it but constantly checking the chemicles. I even left the carbon out for 2 weeks after treatment. This seems to have done the trick. Since then I have added a blue tang 2 cardinal fish and perc and everything has been fantastic. However I did lose some fish that were attacked by the parasite. Hope this helps.

    Re: Reef-Safe Ich Treatment

No "reef safe" or alternative additive or chemical has ever been found to treat and kill Marine Ich parasites consistently and effectively. There are only 3 ways to do it.
