    zebra moray ich treatment?

    Hello,
I am a new member to the forum but have been on here for a long time just reading, but i have a question that i cant seem to find an answer to. My yellow tang and powder blue have come down with ich and i am about to pull everything out and quarentine. And leave everything out of the display for 6-8 weeks to let all the parasite die off. But I also have a Zebra Moray eel, and i know they arent as likely to get ich but i still want to treat to make for sure. But i didnt know if you can treat an eel with copper or not? any information would be greatly appreciated! BTW i also have a lion fish, 2 clowns, and a hawk fish.
    Thank you

    Thanks for posting.

The Eels, as a group are reported to be sensitive to copper. That is most likely because they are part of the group of fishes with 'skin' rather than scales, which are designated as copper sensitive. Others in that same group include sharks and rays.

However, I don't have any first-hand knowledge about their sensitivity to copper. I only use Cupramine as a copper treatment and if you read this, you'll understand why: Copper - Treatment, Use, Problems

I have treated Eels before with Cupramine with no apparent downside effects.

In general I believe that Eels should be left in the sea. The Zebra Moray Eel Gymnomuraena zebra for instance grows to over 6 feet in captivity and should be in an aquarium of no less than 180 gallons. It's so aggressive it is best kept without other tank mates.

You are removing your fishes for treatment, and that is the way to move forward, but some of those fishes you keep can seriously hurt you and others. Proceed with caution!

    Re: zebra moray ich treatment?

    Thank you,
So i should just treat the eel just like i will the other fish? using the dosage levels on the bottle?

And so far i have never seen aggression towards my other fish from the zebra moray, The two clowns are very small and he doesnt even seem to notice they are there. I do realize that he is a wild animal and this could change in an instance, but usually when u walk up to the tank he will come out of the rocks and let you pet him. Samper, (chuck) helps me with the tank and he wasnt to Thrilled when i told him i was going to get an eel! But he was raised from about 8 inches in a tank, and then the guy that owned him was moving and getting out of the hobby, so i decided what the heck...

but i do appreciate the imformation, From what i could tell, nowhere on the internet really specifies this!! So maybe it will help someone else down the road!!

    Yes, IF you're using Cupramine.

    You're welcome.
