most maroons are very territorial and will tend to throw fits in the tank and dislodge anything they can pick up...and they can move some big stuff...they may not get along at all...
ok so im new to this forum thing so bear wit me here. Ive got 2 yellow striped maroons. since there intro into my tank (less than 24 hours) theyve been bickering to establish rank. in doing so theyve damaged each other fins moderately. how long should i allow this behavior to continue. i dont wanna lose them. i understand their temperment and disposition. i just want them to tolerate each other enough to be in the same tank. any info will be helpful.

"a Reef tank is like a garden, you grow one, not buy one"
have a 55 gallon with a few small coral mostly polyps, mushrooms, and about 50 lbs of live rock plenty of hiding places . they are the same size clowns they seem to be tolerating each other today but both have some damage. another question i have a royal gamma who isnt looking good its almost like he got a sunburn and some patch seem to be almost peeling off what can this be
my roon can really be a pain in the a$$ sometimes. anytime i move something in the tank he renovates his home...its funny though, he'll find a lone zoa or a new shroom and spit it into his cave. he is even raising a leather coral in there...
yeah, i always forget the discovery questions.....i guess 2 maroons in a cube or something would tend to bring on the violence
how long have you had your tank?
ive had it for almost 2 years. ive transferred my nemos to the 40 gallons salt tank my fiancee has. shes new to the hobby but just fell in love with it. shes got some leather coral alot of button polyps some clove coral. she likes the critters.
im without great lighting im running a standard florescent until i can replace my hood actually im gonna buy a 54 corner and transfer everything there im in the middle of a aquarium room remodel and its gonna be a huge undertaking to move everything any suggestions in making the move easier on my fish and corals
I'm going to move your thread to another forum for help with your questions about your royal gramma. As far as your maroon clowns are concerned, it would help if you told us their size. I'm assuming they are both juveniles but I don't think you have actually said that so far.

Without knowing the size of the Maroons but knowing they are the same size, my first guess is that they are not bickering for 'rank' they are trying to establish who will be the female. This behavior will continue throughout most of their lives, even after the gender has been established. If they are really not suited to each other, the female can and will kill the smaller one -- the male. The female Maroon is especially tough!
The female Maroon grows up to 6 inches in length. A pair of Maroons require no less than a 75 gallon aquarium and they should be alone in that aquarium (with a couple of exceptions). Two new ones should be obtained already different in size by no less than 1.5 inches. This reduces the stress of determining which one will become the female.
It sounds like the RG had a run-in with one of your corals or inverts. I would need to see a good photo of what it is you are looking at to help much beyond this. If the feeding and foods are proper the RG would heal on its own in a few days. Watch closely for any changes for the worse and report them here with a photo.

my maroons are only approx 2 inches each. they each have their own side of the tank now. they seem to be okay now fins are healing nicely and they eat side by side i guess time will tell. as far as the gamma after his health changed well he was on the road to recovery healing up nicely and was looking a heck of alot better he got a gaping wound from my coral banded im not sure if he was trying to let him clean him. but after the wound he couldnt bounce back and i lost him(bummer) that shrimp is testy somedays hes all about cleaning fish and other days hes about eating fish. my maroon are my fav fish in the industry. i love there colors. temperment i wish was diff. but cant change that they are really the only fish i really ever wanted but i do like other fish. thats why i let my fiancee have her own tank that way she'd stay outta mine lol. and i could add someother fish without worrying bout compatability issues. thank for all the advice though all of it is helpful
