    shipping fish

    Hello

Has anyone had any experience shipping fish? From what I have gathered, fill the bag a third full with water, one fish per bag, fill the rest with oxygen, double bag, ship with a heat pack in styrofoam taped shut, overnight, don't feed for a day or two before. Does this sound about right? Any good sources for thick shipping bags? How about sources of styrofoam boxes that fit in cardboard? Any advice on heat packs? Opinions on UPS vs FedEx? Sources of oxygen? Any other thoughts or advice? Thank you so much!

    Re: shipping fish

Well, here is my plan - please feel free to comment:

    1. I'm going to ship double bagged, 1/3 full of water (deep enough to cover fish if bags are on their side)
    2. I am going to just use air for the remaining 2/3rds since I can't figure out a good source of oxygen
    3. I am not going to use any addititives like Amquel or Jungle Bag Buddies, because I am nervous about poisoning the fish - but if anyone has positive experiences with using these products I could be convinced.
    4. I am going stop feeding them 2 days in advance.
    5. 1 Fish to a bag
    6. I am going to ship the bags in a styrofoam box, taped shut, packed with crumpled newspaper to prevent jarring
    7. I am going to use a hand warmer in the box (I am trying to decide if I should seal the box completely with these or if it will burn up all the oxygen and stop warming.... any thoughts?)
    8. I am going to ship overnight air UPS
    9. I will label the outer cardboard box with Live Fish

    Does this sound reasonable?

    Thanks!

I know that some of the carriers will not take "Live Fish" but then again it depends on where you take it.
