    Question Malchite green and coppersafe

Any info on kordons malchite green and mardels coppersafe(chelated coper) / my lfs made me buy these for what he said is a very god treatment for marine ich / velvet and a host of other thing. I found out malchite green i toxic and not recomended in a reef setup. Also if a use one of these products in a quarantine tank how do i re introduce the fish into the main tank9 freshwater dip ..etc..0 as im told that even using the same net used in the qt can be dangerous.....thnks in advance

In my opinion, CopperSafe is one of the worst of the copper medications for Marine fish. Malachite Green is of no additional benefit. It's the copper that will cure.

You should read this: Curing Fish of Marine Ich

If you think you need to use copper for the treatment, then I'd suggest trying your hardest to obtain Cupramine.

    Re: Malchite green and coppersafe

THANKS A LOT . WILL TRY FOR THE CUPRAMINE. ANY IDEA WHERE I CAN GET IT IN MANHATTAN OR UNDER WHAT BRAND IS IT SOLD. JUST SETTING UP MY REEF TANK. NO CORALS IN AS YET. ITS AROUND 320 LITRES(85GAL) . GOT ABOUT 60LBS OF LIVE ROCK . THE SAND/CRUSHED ROCK BED IS ABOOUT 3 INCHES THICK. HAVE A SUMP WITH MANGROVES/SKIMMER/UV AND SOME BIO SPONGE AND CERAMIC RINGS. GOT A SCAT IN THERE TO START OF THE CYCLE. MY LFS SUGGESTED IT , THOUGH I WANTED TO DO IT ARTIFICIALLY. JUST WANTED TO KNOW BEFOR I ADD MY OTHER FISH DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THE SCAT AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT CAN GET REALLY AGGRESIVE. ALSO I WAS AT THE NEW WORLD AQUARIUM IN MANHATTAN SOME DAYS BACK. THE OWNER THERE TOLD ME THAT TANGS ARE RARELY HERBIVORES AND ARE ALMOST ALWAYS OMNIS. THATS QUITE DIFFERENT THEN WHAT I HAVE TRIED TO GATHER FROM THE NET. PLEASE ADVISE.
AS ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR REALLY HELPFUL REPLIES. THANKS

    Re: Malchite green and coppersafe

As Tangs get older they go from omnivores to herbivores. On the reef the adults only look for and eat algae. There are probably some pods that come along with the algae, but not enough to claim the fish is an omnivore. They are considered herbivores. Many of the herbivore marine fishes will take advantage of a dead animal or a sick fish, but that isn't their primary diet.

Any large pet store or aquarium store might carry Cupramine. That is the name brand. It is made by a company called SeaChem. You can find it on the Internet -- look it up so you know what it looks like. Call or e-mail places in NYC before you go there to be sure they carry it.

You should read and follow these guidelines for setting up a marine tank: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium Even if your intention is to just have a reef tank, that post will get you most of the way there until you need to start to add the immobile invertebrates.

There is a lot of reading I recommend you do. Take a look first through this list of marine aquarium topics to read about: Table/Contents - Link List
