    Firefish health

I know that this is not necessarily a disease but it has to do with the health of my firefish.
I got a pair(or at least i thought they were a pair) of orange firefish a while back and they were in perfect shape when i bought them. I had them in my tank with my ocellaris clown and blue hippo tang but they were both getting picked on by the tang. he was nipping at them and tearing their fins a bit. so i got rid of the tang. I decided to get rid of him instead of the firefish because I knew that the tank was a bit too small for him anyways (75 gal) and I wanted to add more peaceful fish to which he would've been aggressive.
But now my problem is that one of the firefish healed completely but the other seems to still be getting nipped at. I read that it could be the other firefish competing with him for space. Although i have never witnessed this, it seems like the only possibility, my clown doesn't bother anyone. It just seems that he heals a little bit and then regresses to how he was before. So its almost kinda in a state of stagnant repair Another reason why I think it could be the "pair" problem is because the firefish spend the most of the day apart on the opposite sides of the tank. every once in a while the healthy one will come over to the other side and show a little bit of aggression but nothing serious and they will "hang" as a pair for a while and then the other will just go back to his side.
Anyone that knows what would help to pair up the firefish again if possible and to help his fins heal, any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. ;) I just want them to heal and be together in peace. I'm kinda worrited about adding anymore fish because of this problem, I want all fish to be at 100% before I add any more.

Thanks in advance everyone! (as always)

    Re: Firefish health

Do you have a spare tank to put the aggressor in for a month? I doubt it will work, but if the injured firefish recovers fully, and the aggressor comes back to a tank where he has no claimed territory, maybe they will have a better chance at coexisting?

But it sounds like you may need to find a new permanent tank for one of them.

    Good luck.

    Re: Firefish health

You are not providing information regarding actual time involved with the events you have reported.

If this is over a 6-month time period, then the two fish will not likely mate at all. Less than two months can still be an adjustment time period for these fishes.

If you can see any aggression then the one fish is being picked on quite a bit. You see, what humans see is only the tip of the iceberg, when it comes to fish aggression. Fish aggression is actually very subtle to blatant attacks and chasing. Many hobbyists think that their fish are getting along, when in reality there can be quite a bit of aggression happening. Nonetheless. . .The two you have will not likely come around.

Try another pair if you like, but the one must go for sure and you are left with one; or both must go and then you try another pair.

A mating or mated pair do not 'territorialize' against each other.
