    Please ID goby???

I bought this guy at the fish store. He told me it was a pink spotted goby but I haven't found any info on the guy. I did tell the owner my tank specifications and he said it was ok and just to feed it brine and flakes. Ok so let me tell you about this fish and hopefully someone can help me out?

    1. I see it once every 1.5-2 weeks in my 30 gallon tank. (I always think it dies but it always shows up and than disappears)

    2. I have no idea what it's eating and was wondering what other food I can try to buy for it because it's not eating the food I feed my other fish that's for sure. Poor guy looks like he's scrounging for food.

    3. Check out the picture of what it looks like...Name: photo1..jpg

    Please help.

Looks to me to be a blue gudgeon/dartfish. It's in the genus of Ptereleotris I believe.
they're a nervous fish that frighten easily and do much better in small schools and are frequently found on the floor after jumping out of the tank.

they're midwater planktonic feeders but generally don't compete well with more boisterous tankmates for food when alone. I'd recommend switching the brine (mostly water and shell) for a better food like mysis, etc. so if he does eat, he gets better protiens and vitamins than the brine will have.

    Re: Please ID goby???

I second ricksreef depiction of a Blue Gudgeon Goby. Like other Gobiod species comporable to the Gudgeon ie. Purple and Firefish and Pink Bar Gobies, they are very skiddish, do better with numerous hidding places, non aggressive tankmates and more than one!
Feeding two to three times a day varying the diet is ideal. As mentioned brine shrimp is a poor food source as it is mostly moisture! Mysis shrimp, Formula 1-2, Prime Reef, Saltwater Flakes and planktonic foods are best. I would take it one step further and soak the food for 20 minutes or so before feeding in a garlic and vitamin C supplement!!!
