    Fungus?

Have a Clown that has white growths on it's cheek and lip, the one on the cheek appears to have something growing out from it see photo's( not the best but shows what I'm talking about).
Can anyone tell me what it is and how to treat it? I've been trying to no avail to remove from main tank and put in quarantine.

    Re: Fungus?

    Thanks. We needed those photos.

I don't believe it is a fungus. I think it is a parasite. There are many different kinds of parasites and each 'group' is treated differently. Without knowing better which group this one falls into, there isn't much help I can provide.

First, move the fish to a quarantine tank. Don't tell me the fish is smarter than you are. If that is a wild fish, it was caught by a diver in a whole ocean, all you need do it catch it in a container. This thread may give you some ideas on how to best do this: How to Catch Fish -or- Goin' Fisin'

I would recommend not trying to net the fish, since the netting might harm/exacerbate the matter. If you use a plastic bag to 'catch' the fish, this would be best. Just remember, it's harder for you because you're not used to it. But a LFS long time employee would get the fish out in less than a minute.

Without a better diagnosis, you might want to try an off-the-shelf parasite treatment. Prazi-Pro, or Praziquantel, or the best (IMHO) De-Los for general parasites like this.

    Re: Fungus?

    Lee,
Thanks for the reply, I finally got him out of the rocks and into a hospital tank, and yes it is a parasite.
Also found out that what I have is a Spiny Cheeked Anemone Fish that "bone" is normal.
