    Calling Dr Lee! Possible Lymphocystis

Hey Lee. Just thought I would run this by you for an opinion. I have a female ocellaris clownfish (Amphiprion Ocellaris) that may possibly have Lympho.
75 gall tank. 117 lbs of live rock. 9 months old.
I've had the pair of clowns in the DT for 7 months or so. The "female" is now about 2.25" and the "male" is about 1.75" The only other fish in the DT right now is a small (1.25") red mandarin (added 2 weeks ago after quarantine and training).
Do the photos looke like Lymph to you?

Unhappy Re: Calling Dr Lee! Possible Lymphocystis

Hello FoCoMoMasterTec ; I know I am not Doctor Lee but that definitly looks like the virus Lyphocyctis to me. I read their is no medical treatment but to add vitamins to food like Selcon and good water quality. It takes one month to run its course. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Bill. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. The spot is about 30%-50% better after 24 hours and seems to be diminishing.
I had to move a few large rocks a couple of days before I noticed the spots to remove a dead star fish. I'm sure it was quite stressful for the clowns as the rocks were very close to their territory. Other than the spots, I didn't notice any change in behavior or appetite.
I soak all foods (primarily mysis. occasionally brine, omnivore cubes and rarely pellets) with Kent Zoe before feeding. No abnormal excrement. No additives to the aquarium water and appropriate/ balanced water perams can be provided if needed.

Re: Calling Dr Lee! Possible Lymphocystis

From what I can see, it doesn't look like Lymph. Lymph has very distinct edges to it and comes in clumps, like a cauliflower rosette. However, the photos are not close enough or clear enough to be sure. What I think I see is that the whitish area sorts of fades out on the fish. This is not like true Lymph.

I'd say the greatest possibility is a small, localized bacterial infection, much like a human pimple. This should go away on its own if the fish was http://www.reefland.com/forum/marine...nutrition.html

If it gets larger, the fish will need an antibiotic treatment to help it control this infection.

You might get a better diagnosis yourself by looking through the Internet for photos of fishes with Lymph. There are many such photos.

    Good luck!

    LEE

Re: Calling Dr Lee! Possible Lymphocystis

Thanks Lee. I did an image search prior to starting the thread and a couple of images labled lymthcystis looked very similar to my fish's condition. Most others looked like cauliflower, as you described. Its sometimes difficult to trust the image searches. The spot does seem to fade into the skin around the edges. At the rate the spot has been receding, I suspect it will be gone by the time I get home today.
