    Re: Does my Power Blue Hippo have Ich?

    Day 2 update on CopperSafe treatment of my PBT.

    · Tang starting eating today.
    · Color is faded a little on the black part of his face.
    · Seems more active.
    · I check my ammonia and Copper levels twice a day.
    · Have to do daily 40% water changes in QT to keep ammonia levels below 1.0ppm and adjust my Copper levels as needed to insure I stay within 1.5 and 2.0ppm.
    · I put some sponges in my DT sump to hopefully transfer some type of BIO to my QT. Using a Aqua-Tech 5-15 hang on filter with the carbon filter pad removed and replaced with plain filter pad.
    · I am marking everything that comes in contact with my quarantine tanks with yellow electrical tape to prevent any copper transfer to my DT, To include water buckets, siphon hoses, testing vials, food mixing containers, etc.

    What are you supposed to do if you can't catch the fish? Suppose the rock work has been up for a while. Tangs literally dart into crevices and hang out there for what seems like an eternity. I doubt anyone would go as far as to recraft their rock work. So now what?

    Good to hear you're making some positive progress.
    One thing... you really should do your best to keep ammonia immeasurable. Even 1ppm is toxic to the fish. Its a PITA to have to run a QT or hospital tank without an active biological filter ( I've been there myself ) but keeping ammonia and nitrites immeasurable is just as important, for the fish's health, as the copper treatment is.

    Definitely not an easy task

    Do you keep your QT BB or with a SSB?

    Re: Does my Power Blue Hippo have Ich?

    the theory of the transfer method is that the fish is moved away from the parasite before the fish is reinfected. So the fish is kept 'ahead' of the parasite, until the infecting parasites are all off and no new ones can infect.

    If you're interested in performing this process, then you'll need to search the Internet for the details of it. I don't use this for a couple of reasons;

    1) It takes attention;
    2) It takes multiple pieces of equipment;
    3) It takes a significant amount of water, all of which has to be stabilized and adjusted to match each batch before and after it; and
    4) It adds extra stress on the fish having to be caught and moved.

    That how I have it, just wanted to make sure. Also, is Amquel safe to use in my QT to help with my ammonia problem since I currently have no BIO filtration?

    Not sure about that one, since I've never used it. Maybe Lee has some insight on using amquel in a copper solution?

    Re: Does my Power Blue Hippo have Ich?

    I've had no direct experience with Amquel. From others I've heard that it's not something for continual use. Regarding whether or not it can be used with a copper treatment. . .best to contact the manufacturer and ask that.

    For chemical filtration I've used a variety of filters and filter media, but no additives.
