    White/Grey patches on Royal Gramma

    Hello,

I am confused by the white patches on our beloved Royal Gramma.

We have moved the fish to a hospital tank and it is in day 6 of treatment with Cuprazin. Unfortunately, this is not clearing up, nor does it show any healing.

I have attached a picture. I am hoping someone can help me identify the disease.

    Info:
    1. It is very active and skittish, but it has stopped eating its favourite foods. (I assume it does not like the new tank).
    2. The patches are smooth, White/Grey, no sign of inflammation or bleeding.
    3. It would still be in may main tank if it did not have these patches.
    4. Though not apparent on pics, it is also on the yellow areas.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Re: White/Grey patches on Royal Gramma

The fish stopped eating because the stress reached a high enough limit on the fish. The new location is the least stressor on the fish right now.

Remove all the medication from the tank water now. Check water quality and if you detect ANY nitrite and/or ammonia perform a huge water change (over 80%) following these guidelines: How to Make a Successful Water Change

After the removal of all meds and additives you put in the tank, perform the huge water change noted above every other day until you have on hand the right medication. Water quality is very important. Continue to offer food.

Follow good quarantine guidelines: A Fish Quarantine Process and reduce the lighting in the area.

The probability of this being a skin bacterial infection is very high. The copper just exasberates the problem by quickly poisoning the fish. I suggest using the antibiotic: NITROFURAZONE (in the product, Furan-2) and hope the fish makes it.

As a general aside, this fish prefers slightly cooler water (nothing over 75F).
