    Losing Clown fish eggs

My black and white Clown fish are on their 3rd egg spawn and its now day 9. If they hatch the same as last time, 10% will hatch tonight and the rest the following the following night.

My issue is that around day six I noticed that about half of the eggs had disapeared and was wondering if anyone has an idea as to why ?

I know the parents eat the bad eggs and the only thing that has changed from the previouse spawn was the tank temp as it's started to get cold overnight here and it took a day or two to get the temp right again.

    Re: Losing Clown fish eggs

I am very new to saltwater, but I just read Clownfishes by Joyce D Wilkerson, so I have some knowledge related to your problems. I recommend you buy the book ($80) and read the section on VANISHING EGGS.

For now I'll just list few reasons why your eggs are vanishing:

    1. Unstable water
    2. Newly formed clownfish pairs (sometimes they lay about 4 clutches that, instead of developing, disappear in a couple of days.
    3. Male fish does not fan the eggs (you must remove it then and add an air stone to fan them yourself)
    4. Can't have copper.

Long story short, buy the book. Read from page 1 till the end. For some strange reason the book has "hidden" tips about breading. For example, copper will stop or hurt clownfish breeding. This tip is hidden in some other none breeding chapter.

I just got into the hobby, but I would like to breed all saltwater fish
That's why I bought and read the book on clownfish.

One question for you, do you have the required food ready for you larvae?

    Re: Losing Clown fish eggs

Yes I have rotifers going atm, however im thinking that maby the eggs hatched over 3 nights as opposed to last hast of 2 nights because I have found some fry in my sump.

What I have left of the fry are doing ok it seems but its only day 2 for some and day 1 for others. There is only about 50 fry that I was able to syphon from the tank this time

In regards to that book yes im trying to find a copy of it but it seems to be very expensive online even second hand and if you can get it for $80 pls let me know where from ?

    There it is:

    clownfishes | eBay

Btw, your rotifers have to be fed correctly, otherwise the larvae will not survive, but it seems like you know your stuff. Get the book, it is very detail oriented.
