Question Medication's Compatibility with UV Sterilizier

    Hi Lee,

Not sure if you covered this before but I don't remember reading it from one of your stickies.

I am planning to put UV sterilizer in my QT, but I need to know if it has any negative effect on other medication I frequently use.

For a start, I know that UV with cupramine is bad as it will break the copper-amine protein bond and cause copper to be a lot more dangerous as suppose to be in the chelated/protein complex.

How about that with Malachite green or formalin? Does it matter if the medication is ran though UV?

    Thanks Lee, appreciated.

Cool Re: Medication's Compatibility with UV Sterilizier

Hi Vaporize ; UV Sterilizers are used in the initial set up and cycle, they are not needed continuously unless their is an outbreak. I have never used a sterilizer with medication they are only used when you cannot medicate the display or in a store displays . Happy Reefing!!!

Thanks, but I still need an answer on the compatibility of UV & medication.

Do NOT use a UV in quarantine tank. It will alter the medication and may even render medications ineffective. In some cases, the UV can alter the medication and make it lethal to a fish.
