    Vitamin Enriched Foods

    Hello,

I have a question in regards to vitamin enriched foods for my FOWLR tank. It is a 72 gallon tank that currently houses 2 tank bred ocellaris clowns, 1 flame angel, 1 purple firefish, and a host of clean up crew. I feed the fish a mixture of frozen foods. I have read that supplementing the usual diet with some vitamin enriched shrimp could enhance their colors. Personally, the colors don't seem to be faded now or any less colorful than the day each was added to the tank. The ingredient list on the frozen foods already has a vitamin premix listed. Is this suffiecent enough to maintain color over the life of the fish? Would an occasional feeding of vitamin soaked brine or mysid shrimp make the fish coloration even more vibrant?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Additional Vitamins and such are always helpful (unless OD'ed )
I know that Beta Carotene or Vitamin A basically improves coloration
Soaking in HUFA's (Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids) is always helpful as well.
So feeding occasionally would do no harm (possibly daily might or may not) but most importantly, toss the brine. It's like trying to get your daily nutritional needs from popcorn. It taste good and that's about it.

    Re: Vitamin Enriched Foods

Whereas froxen foods are one of the best choices to feed your fish, it doesn't mean that all frozen foods are proper. For instance, frozen brine is not a good choice of a food.

Since your question is generic, without specific listing of ingredients, then I'll address how you should answer your own question: Read the ingredients list. Are there all 12+ vitamins listed there? Do you know what vitamins to look for? Are they vitamins from the ocean or 'human' vitamins? Are they in the right quantity.

These questions are hard for the hobbyist to answer without a lot of education and study. [HINT: Most prepared foods do NOT contain the right kinds nor quantities of vitamins.] I don't spend my time doing that kind of research or study. My solution is simple, I find the proper vitamin and fat supplements and just use those every other day.
