    Damsel behavior

I'm new to saltwater aquarium keeping and I'm currently in the process of cycling my tank. There are 2 blue damsels in my tank and I've built a small sized shelter for both of them in one corner with plenty of hiding places for both. One of them won't let the other one anywhere near the rocks and raises its dorsal fin and charges the other one, but the other one won't fight back. My question is, will this go away with time? I've only had them 4 days but they came from the same tank at the store and were both introduced at the same time. Should I get rid of the aggressive damsel when I get to the point of introducing more livestock after the cycling? 37 gall

    Re: Damsel behavior

Damselfish are notoriously aggressive and territorial. Hard to tell if it goes away over time. Why not add a load of live rock, since you will probably need this anyway to provide adequate "filtration" for the tank. This will create natural barriers and hopefully reduce the territorial-ism.

    Re: Damsel behavior

The Damsel behavior will not likely change, until one of the fish is dead.

However, I must say that the hobby no longer uses fish to cycle a tank. You may be getting mis-information regarding starting a marine aquarium. The using of fish to cycle a tank is harmful to the fish, shortens their lifespan and isn't necessary.
