    odd looking coloring in clownfish.

I have had a black and white occy for about 3 months now. I had 2 before the other one jumped out of the tank. For the first 2 months they were in my tank with no anemones what so ever. Then I put an anemone in and it looks like the top half of the fish has gotten lighter and you can see a little orange coming through the skin. I'm just curious if anyone has run into that and if it may be the anemone that caused it. I would take a pick but whenever I try to take one with my cam, it gets really blurry with all the movement going on.

Re: odd looking coloring in clownfish.

A slight reddening is generally a display of a inflammatory response. This can be from the anemone or another tank inhabitant. Perhaps more likely the Anemone since the coloration was noted after it was added.

This is a similar response to an internal bacterial infection, also. Lastly, this is also a similar response to poor water quality. By this latter, most hobbyists become defensive, swearing their water is great. If you'd like further help, a photo is a very good idea, or at least provide additional information: I'd like to have you check all of the following and provide the information:
    pH
    temp range
    ammonia
    nitrite
    nitrate
    alkalinity
    calcium
    magnesium
    salinity-sp. gr.

List all the living inhabitants in your tank and provide more information about your system (size, equipment, filters you use, circulation/flow rate, etc.). Explain your maintenance process and procedures (how often and what size water changes do you make; when was the last one; how often do you clean filters; how often you clean the tank; etc.).

Watch for any changes in the coloration (spreading, going away, getting darker, etc.). Make sure you are not just seeing a fish that is changing its color from mood changes, but that what you see is more or less permanent.
