    deworming fish food

    Hi,

I have an angelfish that needs deworming in my display tank. He has stringy white poo.

He eats very well and is doing great and I have him over a year now.

Can I deworm my display with deworming flake food for Discus?? It is the only deworming fish food I can find.

I have a reef tank so medicine in the water is not an option.

    Thank you.

    Re: deworming fish food

Deworming is probably best done in a quarantine tank but I don't know for sure. I would guess that some of the medicine in the food can dissolve in the water and cause issues. Has the fish always had stringy doo doo? If not, you might suspect water quality or nutrition issues. Does the medicated food you have access to contain any of the medicines listed here: Strange Excrement from Fish -or- How to be a Super Pooper Snooper? What other ingredients does it contain? The deworming medication I use (Jungle Anti-Parasite Medicated Fish Food) is for fresh and saltwater application so it is possible you're food is compatible. Listing all of the ingredients and the name of the meds might confirm that you can or cannot use it.

    Re: de-worming fish food

    Miguel,

If you read through that post that was linked to you by FoMoCo you'll see that de-worming is one of those treatments you don't have to do in a QT. That is of course if you will be using a medication that is added to the food.

    Re: de-worming fish food

Just wanted to note that the anti-parasite food made by Jungle is not to be used in a tank that houses marine invertebrates. Not sure why but they made it a point to put that on the label.
