    Live rock or Dry rock

I have have heard that it is a good idea to start a tank with dead rock because there is no risk of pests. I have also read in a recommended book (The New Marine Aquarium by Michael S. Paletta) that bringing dead rock introduces contaminants into the tank. I am thinking of starting with dead rock from www.marcorocks.com or www.bulkreefsupply.com any input would be appreciated.

Either choice is fantastic. I like Marco Rock myself. And your not going to introduce anything to the tank using it. Most that don't want hitchhikers use dead rock, no worries. Its alot cheaper too.

Again, check out my build thread. I chose bulkreefsupply for the mere fact that I:

    1 - wanted dry rock
2 - wanted to pay the least
    3 - wanted free shipping

Got 75 lbs of Fiji Premium for a little over $2 a lb w/ free shipping. Curing in my new tank now. I did however get the sand from MarcoRock. A little fine, but I will deal with it. Real nice.
