Advice?
Hey guys long time no talk. I have been checking the forums but lately have not had anything to say. Sorry I couldn't make it to Ronan helping you plumb everything up would have been a great learning experience. Oh well. I did have a few quick questions for anyone who would like to answer. Where do I find a decent and affordable water pump? And how can I cut an overflow out of my 55 All Glass without shattering the whole thing?

Re: Advice?
![]() What type of water pump are you looking for??? There are a couple of guys who can drill your tank for you. A glass shop can do it, but they will charge you. I know Rob has drilled tanks before, and Duane has also drilled them. You are just going to drill the back? Usually the bottom is tempered, and that will ruin everything. If you could be a little more specific about the pump, it will help. |

Re: Advice?
As far as the pump I need... I really dont know. I found a cheapo in a cataloge that pushes about 250 Gallons an hour for $25,,, sounds good to me but I was going to ask you guys before I went to all the hassle of setting it up just to find that 250 GPH isn't enough or way to much or...whatever.
here is the plan. 55 G show tank with overflows (cut in or I found hang on overflows...looks chinsy to me) overflows into 10 G (soon to be 30 G) with supstrate and lots of plants. All this to try to handle some of the Bioload that my wifes Oscar that she had to have puts out. |

Re: Advice?
My feelings about cheap pumps, you don't wanna hear. Unfortunately, nothing that is good is ever cheap. Get a pump that is good, something that you may be able to reuse later!!!!
As far as overflows go, the same thinking applies. Here is an overflow that I have sed in the past, and still use: CPR CS90 Overflow Box (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Overflow Box > External Boxes ) Here is a link to a good pump: Danner Supreme Mag-Drive Aquarium Water Pump/Powerhead Just get a pump that matches it. May be a little more than you want to spend at the moment, but they last!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want, give me a call, I am home all day today and probably tomorrow too!!! Re: Advice?
just remember you need to match your pump+ head pressure to the overflow GPH
a single 1" overflow tube flows @800 GPH so your looking at around a mag 9 a double 1" overflow is at @?1250? so your going to need a pump that will pump just over the amount your losing. |
