Talking Dead or Alive?

So Charlie sells me this LR with a dead, brittle, broken, yellowish attached coral and tells me that it might grow back (after he breaks off a piece to show me that it is indeed dead). I, of course, thought maybe he was off his rocker, just a little. :slap: Oh ye of little faith (that would be me!). Attached are a couple of pictures of the "dead" coral. You can see the extended tentacles in the second photo. (I just put in the third photo for kicks, my xenia has quadrupled in size in about a month. You can also see some green fuzzy looking algae on the rocks, yuk). I also noticed that I have corraline algae growing on the glass. I was going to try to move my LR around a little to make room on the sides for glass cleaning but when I discovered my new life, I decided to leave as is for the time being. Might have to get that bigger tank sooner rather than later! So anyway, I had to check the tentacles with a turkey baster and blew some water on the coral. Indeed, the tentacles withdrew and then extended again. I am soooo excited. What is this coral? Do you remember? I hope it will continue to grow with my lighting. What do you think?

Re: Dead or Alive?

Originally, I wrote "Charlie, do you want a frag?" but then decided to delete that. Of course you can have some of it back. Not sure how long it will take to have it healthy enough. You should come by sometime and take a look. You sound like you just reunited with an old friend.

Re: Dead or Alive?

Well don't you know I have already been studying my turbinaria? Glad to know that I have placed it in a sideways position so as not to collect debris.

Got the xenia from the LFS. You know the one in Kalispell. I paid too much. Maybe I will have a frag before long. It is growing so fast.

I had a hard time finding you guys, cause I asked them if there was a local reef club, and they said," there is, but they don't like Bob" or something like that....
anyways. that's cool you got it to come back to life.

Hey Cutthroatkid,
Glad you found us. I had a hard time finding us too. I hope you can make it to the meeting also since you live so close. I have learned a lot in my two months of having a tank. Everyone on this site is so helpful.
BTW - Who is Bob?
Cyn

Re: Dead or Alive?

Once the website gets designed and put up, I don't think anyone else is going to have issues finding you guys.
