Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that since we were all wondering what happened to Mat of South Bay Photo, I decided to send him and e-mail to see if he'd been kidnapped by one of his models or what. I received an e-mail back from his brother saying that Mat had been in a terrible motorcycle accident a few weeks ago. He is in a coma. I asked his brother to tell Mat that his friends in Montana were thinking of him and wishing him a speedy recovery. Please send your thoughts and prayers to Mat and his family at this difficult time.

I got a response from Jay, and he appreciates the concern of our board. Jay promised to mention Reefland to Mat in the hospital, he is determined that Mat will wake up, and hopes that hearing familiar topics will help with his recovery.

Mat woke up yesterday, let's hope that he is OK!!!!

Not really, just know that he had been in a coma. His brother is checking his e-mail, so he will get it if you send him one.

Wow! I missed this thread somehow.

I knew I hated motorcycles for something other than noise. It seems that people always trying to run those poor bikers over with their cars, trucks...

Charlie, thanks for posting the update. Hopefully Mat will be with us soon posting up a storm.

I think Cynthia e-mailed him yesterday hoping for an update, I haven't heard from her since. I had sent him one earlier in the week, and haven't gotten a reply yet, so I hope the news is good!!!!

The only thing we can hope for is that his brother is checking his e-mail, and maybe printing our e-mails and showing them to Mat. If we can in any way help him to get back to being well thru our correspondence, that to me would mean ALOT.

Hello Charlie,

The good thing is that Mat is now awake and doing better. He doesn't remember anything after being hit. He doesn't remember talking to the police or being transported to the hospital. All he remembers, in his words, is, Oh ****, this is gonna hurt! Kinda funny, but not really. At least he partially smiled when he said it. I think he's going to be okay.
The doctors said that because of his really good helmet, that he didn't hurt his brain too much. They said the coma wasn't good, but it didn't hurt him, at least as far as they can see thus far. He is still in the hospital as he is still recovering. He still has a long way to go, though. He broke his
leg, arm, shoulder, ribs and one ankle in the accident. So, he won't be
walking around for a bit.

I have told him about Reefland and he said to say thank you to everyone. I wrote everyone's name down that said hi and let him know they were thinking about him and wishing him well. He said he misses all of you and misses posting. That brought a smile to his face.

The docs said they are going to keep testing him this week and he might be released in a week or so. He can't really move much, so we'll have to help him out at home and such. I'm just glad he is awake and okay, considering.

I'll tell him again today that everyone is pulling for him there.

Thanks Charlie, for posting this. I emailed Mat today but haven't got an response yet, of course. I'm just happy to hear that he is out from the coma, that is very scary part as it messes with your memory.

PS. As I clicked to post my reply a message came in from Mat's brother Jay. Basically thanking all of us for support and well wishes.
I just re-read list of his injuries and brother, that is a lot of broken bones...

I just got an e-mail from Jay, looks like he may be released next week. Obviously he is going to need some time, but all in all considering what he hit, he is lucky to be alive.

I'm already ahead on that, Charlie... Yankees got beat down by Mets and I needed to soften my frustrations....
