    A new guy in Missoula

    Hello All,

My girlfriend and I were up in Kalispell this weekend and met "Sarmo" and his wife at Bob's place. I'm still not sure what Sarmo stands for but thanks for recommending this reef forum!

I really enjoy everyone's pictures. I am also glad to hear that there will be another store in the area with new interest in the reef hobby. My girlfriend and I spend a lot of our time over in Spokane bugging Steve and Kevin so another store might give them a break, lol.

We currently take care of a 280 gallon tank with a mix of creatures which include a few anemones, clowns, chromis, tangs, wrasses, blennies, stonies, mushrooms, shrimp, crabs, buttons, zoos and a zebra eel. Vague I know but we like a little bit of everything. We eventually would like to have a tank like Kevin Pockell's big stony tank @ Aquatic Dreams... Some day.

    Anyway, hello from Missoula.

    Devon & Shelby

Kevin told me he had someone come in from Missoula on Saturday, sorry I missed ya!!!!!
You would be more than welcome to come up and bug us to. You aren't the only one who wonders what Sarmo means, but I have known Rob for close to 4 years now, and he has one heck of an sps tank too.

    Check out this thread:
Couple of pics of Mr. Pockells 600 gallon display

    Devon,
You and your girlfriend will definitely have to come to a meeting here in NW MT. We have a great club with lots of fun people and growing all the time. We are all glad to have another store to patronize too. It's good to have a little competition. Looking forward to seeing pix of your tank!

OK, nevermind about the pix. I checked them out on your profile. Cool stuff. How's about a full tank shot?

    GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want, I can PM you my phone number, and if you have any trouble, finding the place, give me a jingle. Unless you would want to do a little pregame before the meeting. We may not be able to bring any beers, so we might have to pregame or postgame, depending upon your preference.

Not normally........................ You wouldn't want to come up and see the stuff in the north end of the valley, would you? I think Rob is gonna come up Saturday and give me a hand with some stuff, you would be more than welcome to come up.
Scotty's does make a great burger too!!!!!
If you are gonna make a weekend of it, you might as well stop by and see Rob's 500 while you are at it.

Re: A new guy in Missoula

    Hello Stacy

Thanks for the photo comments! There are a few of us here in Missoula with tanks. I keep in touch with one guy who has 5-6 tanks up together (900+ gal.) and is really interested in propagating corals. The other guy has a bamboo shark and a blue dot ray that he is very happy with. I've heard of a few other large systems up the Rattlesnake and down the Bitterroot but have yet to see them.

I started out with some puffers, eels, triggers, and other creeps then eventually my girlfriend and I found a soft spot for anemones and more peaceful fish. Now I have a mix in my tank but can't wait to build a few other tanks (with more accessible filtration).

At the moment I am fed up with inconsistent tests. I have started to incorporate electronic tests from American Marine (Calcium & ORP) and Hanna (pH) in hopes of more consistent/accurate readings.

I am also big on automation which has me thinking about the addition of a Calcium reactor....

Anyway, enough about me. What's your story?

    Devon

Re: A new guy in Missoula

I am still pretty new comparatively to you guys. I have a 90 gallon tank which for the most part has been FOWLR, but I have wanted a reef tank. I am slowly adding some coral frags. My wife is not as thrilled with the tank as I am, although she is supportive, she doesn't like the financial aspect. I have some fun fish though. I would love to see your tank some time maybe in the future.
