    Pics of the new tank.

It's not much, but it will work for me
55 gal with CPR bakpak. I also have a temporary 6500K CFL light over it until my lights get here next week.

    the pics:

and a FTS (excuse the net, I'm trying to keep out the bakpak micro bubbles)

sorry for the camera phone quality, but IDs would be nice

Looks like finger leathers, mushroom leathers and polyps to me.

That is certainly a nice start. Thanks for sharing the pictures. What kind of lighting did you decide to go with?

    Nice start!

A small media bag with a zip tie works really well with the CPR Backpack to reduce micro bubbles. I really liked that skimmer but had trouble keeping the pump's impeller clean.

Thanks for the tip Devon I think I have one somewhere...
I'll keep an eye on the impeller too.

I can't wait for my light to come. You guys agree that it's plenty for low light corals?

Re: Pics of the new tank.

It just depends what you intend on keeping in the long run. I would think it should be fine for a bit.

If I had my tank to do over again I would try to concentrate on populating it with corals and fish from a specific geological region. Not mix some corals and fish that aren't found in nature together. A "theme" tank. If you want to go with low light and high flow then there are lots of cool species to consider, sun corals, carnations, all kinds of low light goodies. It's so easy to go into a store with more money than brains and come out with all the pretties, but unfortunately half of them will not like each other and will cause you problems in the long run.

I think there are too many people out there who don't plan far enough ahead with their tank, I was one of those people but it's a learning experience. You will kill a lot less creatures if you really give this stuff some thought.

Not to say that your aren't planning ahead, it's just something that has been on my mind here lately (not about you, lol) and I wanted to put it out there.

Congrats on the new start! I will have some shrooms and various other possible additions to share when you have planned out which direction you want to head in with your tank. Keep us posted.

Re: Pics of the new tank.

I appreciate the concern. I think I'll have to see what this puffer will tolerate and go from there. I think he won't bother much though, just from watching him in the year I've had him.
This being my first real SW tank, I'm not in too big a rush to take on the hard stuff. just want it to look nice

Wow your tank stocked itself pretty quick. I like the lights. The green and purple guy in the photo looks like a starburts polyp to me. Where did you get the corals?

Re: Pics of the new tank.

I found green star polyps. (same thing?)
Thanks, the lights are a lot better than I expected for so cheap. The guy i got the tank from called and said he was taking down his nano and I had first dibs on everything in it. Lucky me.
Only thing I've bought separate so far was a few pieces of rock and the fish.
I'm not gonna lie, looking from the original picture to the current setup, I'm pretty proud of myself.

Yeah green star polyps are the same, mine are starting to really take off.

You should be proud, things look awesome and the tank has been setup for a while so you shouldn't run into any trouble. I'm adding a 90 gal. refug to my setup sometime this next week, I can't wait to get it going.

Anyway, have a good week and I'll see you this weekend. Hopefully it's a good turnout.

Re: Pics of the new tank.

I need to get my fuge together as well.

You weren't interested in the frag were you? I know it doesn't look great, but is still alive. I get the feeling it won't be for long though under my lights...

The frag isn't M. digitata James, looks like some type of acro. I will be around tonite if you wana stop by fpr a while. I would take the acro frag and throw it on my frag shelf and see if it colors up.
You can grab the overflow if you want.
